5 Antique Small Pennsylvania Dutch Tin Cookie Cutters Birds Tulip Horse Shapes

  • $ 49.99

Description: Offered here is a lot of 5 antique small flat back tin cookie cutters. The five cutters, which are a great example of Pennsylvania Dutch country primitives, are in the shape of what we believe are a chick, a flying bird, a bird laying down, a tulip flower, and a horse. Two of the cutters have a large central hole to let the air out, namely the chick and the laying bird. Two have two small holes each, namely the tulip and the flying bird. Finally, the horse has a small central hole in the flat back. We believe all five cutters are most likely from the late 1800s or early 1900s. All five cutters have no handles on the back. However, the flying bird cutter appears to have had a handle but it was removed (you can see signs of solder left on the flat back). The cutters are very well made and are solid with mostly even dark age patina. They all have some minor rust spots and some distortion. A nice lot of Pennsylvania German primitive tin implements worthy of a spot in your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Uncertain, but most likely they are all from the late 1800s or early 1900s.

Origin: They were all acquired at estate sales in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: The chick cutter is ~3" by ~2" and is ~13/16" deep, the flying bird cutter is ~3" by ~2 1/4" and is ~1/4" deep, the laying bird cutter is ~3 1/2" by ~2" and is ~1/2" deep, the tulip cutter is ~3 1/4" by ~2 1/2' and is ~1/2" deep, and the horse cutter is ~3 3/4" by ` 2 1/8" and is ~3/8" deep. All five cutters together weigh slightly over 2 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Unmarked.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Nice lot of cookie cutters with nice and very desirable Pennsylvania Dutch primitive designs. These old cutters would definitely make a great addition to your cutter, Americana, or primitives collection.

Condition: All cutters are intact with no break and no repairs. They are all original, are soiled, display signs of rust, with all having a warm dark gray patina. All cutters display some distortion here and there with the flying bird cutter having two of its corners bent in. Several of the cutters may have been resoldered over time. The back of the chick cutter is bent around the design. The flying bird cutter appears to have had a handle in the past, which was removed (you can see signs of solder left on the flat back). Four of the cutters have remnants of old label or of glue on the back, which we believe can be cleaned off but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. A Nice grouping of old primitive cookie cutters worthy of a spot in your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
