Antique Blue Staffordshire Transfer Ware Ironstone 8 3/4" Plate Florence Pattern William Adams & Sons
Description: An antique blue and white transfer ware or transferware plate in the Florence pattern. The plate has a central scene with a waterway having two boats with a castle in the background and a house with trees. There are clouds in the sky above. There are people on the boats. The plate has a 14 sided rim with a curved edge decorated with foliate design having what looks like berries in a repeating fashion. Please view photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Early to Mid 1800's.
Origin: Tunstall & Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England .
Size: 8 3/4" in diameter and 1 1/8" high.
Maker: William Adams & Sons.
Marks: Marked with an impressed semi-circle saying W. Adams & Sons as well an under-glaze mark saying W. Adams & Sons with the word Florence in an oval surrounded by floral design.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Very nice antique plate having a very desirable patterns made in Staffordshire England.
Condition: Plate is in very good condition with no cracks, hairlines, crazing, or repairs. The plate has some utensil marks which are hard to see but is there and has some soiling and staining at the edge of the plate as well as stains on the back of the plate at the foot. Be that as it may, the plate is solid with nice colors and in great shape after being around for over 150 years. Please see photos to appreciate the beauty and condition of this piece.
