Antique Carved Wood Primitive Butter Print Wheat Sheaves Decoration

Description:  A beautiful antique lathe turned wood wooden butter print. The butter print, which is made of a single piece of wood is decorated with a deep carved wheat sheaves design. The print has a large flat surface with a deep carved design of many wheat sheaves enclosed by a single line and surrounded by plants on either side. The design is enclosed in double raised lines and the edge of the print is decorated with toothed design.  The print has a knob like handle on top. The entire piece appears to be made of a soft and has developed several age cracks. See page 159 in Paul Kinding's book "Butter Prints and Molds Published by Schiffer Publishing Limited of West Chester PA in 1986 for a similar example. Size: Measures ~4 3/8" in diameter  at the design part and is ~3" high.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Very interesting antique butter print with a nice and rather common design.

Condition: The piece is in good condition given its age and utilitarian function. It has no repairs, or losses. It has general wear, scratches, and soiling commensurate with its age and use. It also has several age cracks which go through and can be seen in the photos. It also has a few minor chips along the edge of the piece which can be seen in the photos. The piece has acquired a nice patina with age. Please see photos to appreciate its beauty and condition.
