Antique Chinese Canton Enamel on Copper Round Trinket Box Man, Woman, & Child Scene
Description: A beautiful antique, hand painted, Canton enamel on copper Chinese box. This round box is a two part box with half being the lid and the other being the bottom. The top has a colorful scene of a man next to a woman with a child behind them. There are rocks and trees in the scene too. This hand painted scene is very well executed and shows great details of the people and the vegetation. The scene is surrounded by a thin red, yellow and blue colored frame. The sides the top has a pinkish design showing light green flowers and dark green leaves. There are also three framed oval vignettes with red flowers on a white background along the circumference. The bottom half has a foot and has a bluish (not pinkish similar to the top) design showing red flowers with green leaves. There is also three framed oval vignettes with red flowers on a white background along the circumference. These are similar but not the same as the top portion. The bottom of the box is colored in white within the circular foot and has a blue floral and foliate design in the center. The inside of the box is white and undecorated. The fact that the top and bottom portions are similar but not exactly the same suggest that this piece is married from two different boxes, in other words the top is from a different box than the bottom. Despite that, it is still a great box worthy of a spot in your collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Uncertain but most likely from the 1800's.
Size: Measures ~3 3/16” in diameter and is ~1 3/4" high with the top on. The box weighs about 4.2 ounces.
Marks: Unmarked except of a blue floral and foliate design on the bottom of the box.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is definitely a nice antique box, which deserves a spot in your Chinese box collection.
Condition: Box is in very good condition with no cracks, breaks, hairlines, loss of color, loss of enamel, or repairs. There are some light white lines within the design which appear as if it is grazing but we are not certain that it is. In addition, as we discussed above the box is made up of two halves from different boxes as evidenced by the two halves although similar are of different colors and have different designs. Be that as it may, the piece is still great looking and worthy of a spot in your collection. Please see the photos for additional condition information.
