Antique Pewter Small Lidded Sauce Pot w/ Wooden Handle & Spout Having a German Mark
Description: A nice antique pewter lidded sauce pot having a wooden handle. The piece consists of a small round pewter container with a flat bottom and a hinged lid having a central finial. The piece has a spout and the lid has a hole to let steam escape. The piece has a nicely shaped turned hardwood handle with blond coloring. The hardwood handle is attached to the pot using a tubular pewter connector which is attached to the round container. The handle itself ends with a round small flattened ball on top. The piece is marked on the inside with what we believe is a German mark from the late 1700s or early 1800s. The piece has a light gray age patina, which truly looks great. The wood handle has several age cracks, scratches, and dings but is intact and solid. All in all, this a very nice antique pewter piece worthy of a spot in your collection. Date: Unknown, but most likely late 1700s or early 1800s (late 18th century to early 19th century).
Origin: Purchased in Southeast Pennsylvania, USA. The pot was most likely made in Germany.
Size: The pot itself measure ~2 1/2" in diameter at the base, ~3 1/4" in height to the top of the central finial of the lid, and is ~4" at its widest including the hinge and spout. The entire piece is ~6 1/2" long including the handle. The piece weighs almost 8 ounces.
Maker: Unknown.
Marks: The piece is marked on the bottom of the inside. The mark appears to show a standing person with some lettering but we are not familiar with such a mark. We were told by the previous owner that the piece is German.

The bowl has a nice gray age patina which gives it a great look. The exterior shows a few minor scratches, dings, and casting defects. The interior shows more casting defects and scratches. The hinge is intact and works as it should. The pewter component of the piece is intact with no breaks or repairs. The wood handle has several age cracks, scratches, and dings but is intact and solid.
