Antique Pewter Snuffbox Snuff Box Raised Eagles Jardinière w/ Flowers Lid Design
Description: Offered here is an antique (Late 18th or early 19 century) rectangular pewter snuff box or snuffbox. The box is rectangular in shape with straight sides and rounded corners. The box has s hinged lid equipped with a small protruding thumb piece. The lid of the box is decorated with a raised design depicting a central Jardinière with flowers flanked by two eagles with raised wings looking at the jardinière. The eagles are within a nice scroll design with a foliate add-on. This bottom of the box has a geometric design in the center with a floral and foliate repeating design surrounding it along the edge. The sides of the box are undecorated. The box is in fair condition with soiling throughout, and a break between the front side and the base, which is tight, but you can see the light coming through and the side is not flush with the base. The inside of the box has pitting and stains. The design on both the top and bottom is worn off but is still obvious and looks good. The box has minor dings throughout with pitting and staining throughout. The hinge is intact and works as it should but the lid does not close tightly. Other than that, the box is all original and is in good condition. A nice snuff box in fair to good condition after being around for many years, which would make a nice addition to any collection. Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Size: The box measures ~3 1/4" by ~1 7/8" by ~3/4" and weighs about 3.5 ounces.

It shows soiling throughout and a break between the front side and the base, which is tight, but you can see the light coming through and the side is not flush with the base. The inside of the box has pitting and stains. The design on both the top and bottom is worn off but is still obvious and looks good. Other than that, the box is all original (except for the repair in the hinge) and is in fair condition for being over 100 years old.
