Antique Silver Colored Metal Match Safe or Vesta Raised Black-eyed Susan Flowers
Description: Antique pocket match safe, matchsafe or vesta made of a silver-colored metal. This match safe has a raised design depicting flowers with round centers surrounded by petals (Black-eyed Susan?) on both sides. The repousse design is also evident on the inside. The match safe has a hinged lid which also has raised flower design. The matchsafe has a striker for the matches on the bottom. The lid hinge works well and closes tight. This match safe is a bit unusual in the sense that it is fatter in the bottom and thinner on top in thickness (it goes from ~3/8" in thickness in the bottom where the striker is to ~1/4" where the hinge is). Date: Uncertain, but sometime between late 1800 and early 1900s.
Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: Measures ~2 1/8" by ~1 1/2" and it is ~3/8" in thickness in the bottom where the striker is to ~1/4" where the hinge is, with the lid being ~3/8" thick. The vesta weighs about one ounce.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: An interesting antique match safe. It would make a great addition to your small box collection, matchsafe, or tobacco/smoking related collection.
Condition: The match safe, is NOT made of silver and is in good clean condition with no major problems. The hinged lid works great and closes tightly as it should. The matchsafe has no breaks or repairs. The vesta has a few minor and shallow dings to exterior with the most noticeable in the corner at the bottom as seen in the 4th photo. It also has some surface scratches, some soiling, and general wear to the exterior commensurate with the pieces age and utilitarian function. Be that as it may, these are minor and do not affect the beauty and quality of the piece. Please see photos for additional condition information.
