Antique Small Walnut Wooden Primitive Slide Lid Box Carved Pull Marked J.C.M.
Description: A nice and well-preserved antique walnut wooden small box with a sliding lid. The box is dark brown in color and is of nail construction. The sliding lid has a carved pull near the edge to assist with opening it. There is a small hole below the carved notch where it was probably nailed to the edge below it to secure the box in a closed position. The lid is of formed construction with a wide flat hump in its center and slides through channels carved at the top of three sides. The box is finished on the outside and not on the inside. The back of the lid is punch marked with the letters J.C.M. (see last photo). This box has a very primitive form, but is still in very good condition after being around for many years. Just a wonderful and nicely done piece of primitive Americana to add to your Collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice piece of Americana, which would make a worthy addition to your collection.
Condition: The box is in very good condition, with no breaks, losses, or repairs. It does have scratches, dings to the surface, discoloration at the nail heads, age cracks and cracks in the wood around the nails in some spots, and shows the heads of the nails with some of them coming above the wood surface. It is soiled with some small stains. There is a scratch on top of the lid that looks like a crack, but it is not. It is just a scratch, which does not go through the lid. All these issues can be seen in the photos. The piece is a bit soiled, with some staining (especially on the inside), and dusty with some staining here and there. Be that as it may, this is a nice primitive slide lid box that is over 100 years old and still in a very good condition. It is a worthy of a spot in your collection of primitive Americana. Please see photos for additional condition information.
