Antique Victorian English Wood 3-Compartments Stamp Box Marquetry Decoration
Description: A beautiful old Victorian rectangular and rather long wood stamp box. The box, which has a lift-off lid is equipped with three compartments. The top of the lid is decorated with a beautiful marquetry decoration consisting of two fan shaped patterns of light and dark wood flanking the image of a one shilling postage stamp that is green and white in color. The stamp depicts a young queen Victoria representing the famous 1847 English stamp. The entire pattern, the two fans with the central stamp, is framed with a nice marquetry repeating pattern. The box appears to be of glued construction with a beautiful brown lacquer finish to the exterior. The lift-off lid fits tightly on top of the box ensuring the box does not open unexpectedly. Judging by the stamp image on top and the quality as well as the style of the parquetry decoration we estimate the box was made in England sometime in the mid to late 1800s. A great looking antique stamp box in great condition to add to your collection. Please carefully view photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is definitely a nice antique stamp box worthy of a spot in your stamp box collection.
Condition: Box is in very good condition given its age and utilitarian function. The piece has no breaks or repairs. The design is intact with no losses and the lid sits tightly on the box thus insuring no accidental loss of stamps. The surface is clean and the box is generally clean with the exception of residue of old labels on the bottom of the box which would most likely clean easily but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. There are no dings to the surface or major defects that we can see. All in all, a great example of Victorian stamp box to add to your collection. Please see photos to appreciate its beauty and for additional condition information.
