Antique Wood and Glass Miniature Salesman Sample Washboard CRYSTAL Made in USA
Description: An antique miniature wood and glass washboard. This washboard was more than likely a salesman sample. It consists of a wood frame and a glass ribbed insert to rub your wash over it. The piece is nailed together. The glass has the words "CRYSTAL MADE IN U. S. A" in raised lettering. The piece has no other indication as to brand, which we assume has been lost over the years. A very interesting and unusual piece which would make a great addition to your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Uncertain, but it could be from late19th century to early 20th century.
Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The base measures ~11 1/4" long including the feet, ~5 1/4" wide and is ~1 1/8" at its thickest. The piece weighs about 13 ounces.
Maker: Unknown.
Marks: has the words CRYSTAL MADE IN U. S. A. in raised lettering on the glass portion.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Just a very nice and unusual antique salesman sample washboard which would make a great addition to your collection.
Condition: In good condition with no breaks, damage, or repairs that we could identify. The board's wood looks a bit washed suggesting it may have been used in water. The nails holding it together are rusty but are solidly in. The glass portion is intact with no cracks or chips but is a bit soiled. The top cover has a crack for the full width of the piece near its bottom with minor losses at the bottom corner but is still held in place by the nails. The piece would have probably had a label or some writing on the wood cover on the top to indicate the brand, but this is long gone and is no longer there.
