Contemporary Carved Wood Bufflehead Duck Decoy By Ed S Pfoutz Glass Eyes
Description: A beautiful decorative carved wood and painted duck decoy. This is a decoy representing what we believe is a Bufflehead duck. The piece is black or dark brown and white in color with a gray beak or bill and has what we believe is glass eyes. The decoy has no carved details except for general shape and curves within the head. The wings are outline by white sponged coloring and not by carving. The decoy has a metal, we believe is lead, weight attached to the bottom and as such the decoy is rather heavy for its size. The piece is signed but not dated by the artist on the bottom. This piece was purchased directly from the artist Ed S Pfoutz a few years ago and comes from our personal collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: The piece is not dated but was purchased from the artist a few years ago, so I would date it post 2010.
Origin: Purchased directly from the artist in Manheim, Pennsylvania.
Size: The decoy measures ~12" long, ~5 1/2" at its widest, and ~6 1/4" at its highest point. The piece weighs a little over one pound 13 ounces.
Maker: Ed S. Pfoutz.
Marks: Signed in ink "ES Pfoutz" on the bottom, which is difficult to see unless the decoy is angled correctly under a light source.
Condition: The piece is in very good condition with minimum wear or losses to the paint. It does have a few spots of discoloration, one or two stains and some soiling to the surface. It has no repairs, but has a long crack and a shorter one on the bottom. It has a few scratches and dings to the surface but these give the decoy true character. Be that as it may, this is a very nice piece which would display well in any collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
