Contemporary Carved Wood Decorative Duck Decoy By Rich Haines of Blackwood NJ
Description: A beautiful carved wood and painted duck decoy. The decoy, which shows what we believe is a Bufflehead, is carved of a light porous wood and sits on a regular wood base with a central rectangular foot having a hole with a rope to be anchored from. The porous painted wood body of the decoy is glued to the wood base. The head of the decoy appears to be carved of regular wood. The body looks like crock but is solid and is wood but appears to be light in weight. We are unfamiliar with this type of wood and hence our use of the word porous wood to describe it as opposed to woods we are familiar with which we refer to as regular wood. The base is finished with a brown coloring and is signed by the artist. The body of the decoy which is carved from porous wood then painted in black, white, gray, and purple, has a minimum of carved details. The carved details include some carving to show the definition the tail and the general shape of the duck. the head which is carved of regular wood and painted in black and white with a gray bill, shows the bill and has two inserted dark plastic eyes. This is really a nice decorative piece that is well done and signed by the artist. It would make a great decorative piece or a nice addition to your collection.
