Contemporary Hardwood Dresser Box Dark Brown with Light Colored Laminate Panels MOP Escutcheon and Brass Handle Curved Bracket Feet Marked Southampton
Description: This is a very well made and rather heavy hardwood dresser box. The box is constructed of thick and heavy hardwood having a dark brown finish, possibly a laminate. It has a hinged wooden lid equipped with a brass swivel handle. The front and sides of the box are decorated with light colored laminate wood panels with a dark inlayed border. The front is also decorated with an MOP escutcheon with a key shaped hole but does not have a locking mechanism associated with it, just a decorative touch. The box also has four curved bracket feet with felt pieces at the bottom. The bottom of the box shows the color of the unfinished wood and has a plaque with the maker's name. Date: Uncertain, but most likely late 1900s or early 2000s.
Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The box measures ~9 3/8" by ~4 3/4" and is ~6 1/2" high with lid closed. The piece box weighs over two pounds and eleven ounces, which is rather heavy for the size.
Marks: Has a metal plaque on the bottom with the name "Southampton".
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A nice very well made wood box that is very nice looking. It would make a great addition to your wood box collection, or to use on your dresser.
Condition: The box is in very good condition with no major problems. It has no breaks and no repairs. It has a few scratches and a few minor dings to the surface. The hinge works well and is original to the box. The felt pieces at the bottom of the feet appear to have been added later but do serve a purpose and are still solidly in place with some wear. Be that as it may, the box is in great condition, solid and beautiful. Please see photos for additional condition information.
