Halcyon Days England Enameled Bonbonniere Box Raised Dog Laying in Basket MIB
Description: A beautiful small round-shaped enamel on copper Bonbonniere or box by Halcyon Days Enamels of England. This very colorful box has a hinged lid and the box looks very much like the antique (18th century) Battersea enameled patch boxes in shape and profile. The bottom of the box is in the form of a black dog with yellow eyes laying in a red wicker basket while the lid of the box is flat with slightly rounded edge and decorated with a silhouette of a man standing with gun in hand and a dog behind him with a bird in the sky and trees in front and behind him. The scene is surrounded by a brown colored image of a belt with its buckle at 10 o'clock, along the edge. The box is also enameled on the inside with the inside of the lid having a drawing of two puppies next to each other. In addition, the bottom or the back of the laying dog has the letters HD LONDON within a square with the initials WH below it (we believe the initials are those of the artist). Both top and bottom are fitted with brass rings having a hinge on the back and a thumb piece on the front of the lid. The brass rings of both the top and bottom have been treated to darken them and thus complementing the darker coloring of the box. The box comes with its original box lines with material and showing the name of the maker on the inside and outside. Both the enameled box and the box where it fits are in excellent condition. The piece comes with a small booklet which discusses this type of boxes and their history. This is a very nice piece to add to your collection of small enameled boxes. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
