Hand Carved Contemporary Polychrome Painted Wooden Folk Art Blue Bird By Phillip Gottshall Lancaster County PA
Description: A hand carved wood and polychrome painted folk art blue bird having a red wing. This very simple bird with a nice slick and elongated bird is colored in a blue coloring and has a yellow beak and a red wing ion top of its body having a black center. The bird has black round eyes and its tail is decorated with red circles having green centers with a black dot. The bird has braided wire legs that are fitted in its underbelly and are anchored is a round piece of wood as a base. The piece is marked and dated on the bottom of the base in blue color. The carving is simple and shows the marks of the tool used to make it. It is colored in basic colors with minimum details of the body. Just a wonderful and nicely done piece of American Folk Art to add to your Americana or bird carvings Collection. Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Lancaster County Pennsylvania.
Size: The bird measures ~6 5/8" long, is ~3 5/8" at its highest with the base measuring ~1 1/4" inn diameter and is ~1 1/4" high. The piece weighs about 1.5 ounces.

Marks: Marked in blue on the bottom of the base ”P.G 09”.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice piece of Americana, which would make a worthy addition to your collection. Condition: The carving is in excellent condition, with no breaks, cracks, or repairs. It does have minor scratches and minimal loss to the paint, if any.
