Native American Indian Full Groove Carved Stone Axe Uncertain Date and Location
Description: A nice authentic American Indian carved stone full groove axe. The axe, which is encrusted in yellowish brown dirt appears to be carved of a dark stone. Some spots where the dirt is off, you can see the almost black stone. The axe head is ~5 1/4" long and ~3 1/4: wide. It is ~2 1/8 at its deepest at the end opposite the sharpened end. Both sides of the axe show signs of carving and the edge is fairly thin and sharp. This axe was purchased as part of a large estate and is out of our area of expertise. We believe the axe is real and all original and we are selling it as found. Please view photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Nice piece of Native American Artifacts.
Condition: The piece is in good general condition. It is encrusted in yellowish brown soiling which we chose not to clean, but appears to be made of Basalt like stone. The piece appears to be all original with some losses at the top opposite the sharpened edge. It also may have some losses here and there throughout. Other than that, the piece has no repairs, or cracks. See page 87 in Jim Bennett's book "Ancient Indian Artifacts" Volume 1 Published by Collector Books of Paducah Ky in 2008 for a similar example. We are unfamiliar with these types of artifacts so we are selling it "As Found" with no reserve and at a fraction of its true value. Please see photos to appreciate beauty of the piece and for additional condition information.
