Vintage Carved Wood Primitive Butter Print Stylized Eagle with Shield Incised Border

Description: A beautiful vintage lathe turned and carved wood wooden butter print. The butter print, which is made of wood, has a carving depicting an eagle with its wings next to its body and its chest shaped as a shield with stripes. There are plant branches on both sides of the eagle. The eagle has arrows in its talons. The print has an incised line along the edge. The print has a knob like handle which appears to be part of the same piece of wood from which the print disk is made. The entire piece appears to be made of a light colored hard wood. Date: Uncertain, most likely mid 1900's, but could be earlier.

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: Measures ~3 3/4" in diameter at the design part and is ~2 3/4" high. The piece weighs slightly over 3 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Unmarked.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Very interesting vintage butter print with a nice and very desirable design. Nice and very desirable vintage butter print, which would make a nice addition to your collection.

Condition: The piece is in excellent condition with no repairs, or losses. The entire piece appears to be carved from a single piece of wood. The handle and back show some minor wear and light soiling. The front shows light discoloration to the wood, which can be seen in the photos. It also shows scratches which we believe are original to the making. The design is clean suggesting the piece did not see much use, but rather was cherished by its previous owner. The piece has no cracks, breaks, hairlines, or repairs. It has no losses and looks great. Please see photos for additional condition information.
