Vintage Hand Painted Porcelain Box Inside Floral Decoration Made in France
Description: A beautiful hand painted French porcelain box having slightly domed lid and eight sides. The box opens in the top with a hinged lid and is white on the inside with delicate floral drawing both on the lid and the bottom. The exterior is nicely decorated with a dainty floral and foliate design consisting of red (roses?) and purple flowers on a white background surrounded by green leaves framed by green and gold colored areas. The sides of the box are also decorated with green areas framed with golden lines. The bottom edge of the box is painted with a golden line. The base of the box is white with indication that the box is French and was hand painted. The entire piece is made of porcelain with brass hinged closure. The closure has a decorative brass locking mechanism to ensure the box closes firmly. The hinge has a short protrusion to prevent the lid from falling back when the box is opened. The base of the box is slightly recessed with straight rising side walls. It is marked on the base with the words "France; Hand Painted" in blue under glaze lettering and has what we believe is a make's mark again in blue under glaze. This is a very nicely done box with beautiful decoration and well made porcelain box from France. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Unknown but most likely early to mid 1900s.
Size: Measures ~2 1/4" by ~1 3/4”and is ~1 1/4" high with the lid closed. The piece weighs almost 2 ounces.
Marks: Marked on the base with the words "France Hand Painted" in blue under glaze lettering and has a maker's mark consisting of two interlaced "L" again in blue under glaze.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is definitely a nice and very interesting box made in France, which deserves a spot in your French porcelain or small box collection. Condition: Box is in very good condition with no cracks, breaks, hairlines, crazing, loss of color, or repairs. The hinge is intact and the thumb piece or latch is intact and in place. However, the box does not close tightly, instead the lid pops open a bit as can be seen in the photos. The box is lightly soiled but that can be cleaned easily. Be that as it may, this is a very mice vintage box worthy of a spot in your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
