Vintage Meerschaum Pipe Bearded Man with Head Dress Bowl Amber Colored Polymer Stem
Description: Vintage meerschaum pipe with an amber colored stem. The bowl of the pipe is carved in the shape of a man's head. The man has a beard and mustache and is wearing a head dress having a tassel on the side. The carving is very beautiful and shows a lot of details. Just look at the eyes, the hair in the beard, the nose, the details in the tassel, and detailed of the head dress. The bowl was obviously used and has acquire a nice reddish hue typical of used meerschaum. When looking at the mouth piece or stem, it is obvious it is not truly original to the piece since it obvious it was never used and does not fit correctly and when screwed in it does not line-up properly. Be that as it may, the bowl is beautiful and as such the entire piece would display very nicely in your collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Uncertain but possibly mid to late 1900's.
Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The piece was probably made somewhere in Europe.
Size: ~5 1/2" long including the stem, the bowl is ~2 1/2" high and the top measures 1 1/2" by 1 3/4".
Marks: The bowl is unmarked, but the stem is marked Made in Turkey.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Very nice pipe, which would display nicely in your collection.
Condition: The pipe is in excellent condition. It has no repairs, cracks or chips. The bowl shows signs of use and has acquired a reddish color typical of used meerschaum. The stem is also intact and clean and as we indicated earlier does not appear to be original to the piece and does not line up properly when fully screwed in.
