Antique Clear Cranberry Glass Muffineer or Sugar Shaker Squat Shape

Description:  A blown glass antique sugar shaker or muffineer. The clear cranberry colored shaker has a round flat base with a star burst pattern to it. The base flares up with rounded sides having a ribbed pattern which rises to a shoulder, which continue rising with a concave long neck ending with a threaded rim to screw a lid on. The lid, which appears to be plates, has a flower shaped design with a central dome and holes all along the flower's petals. Please view photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Historical Background: Popular during the Victorian era, muffineers (also called sugar casters or sugar shakers) were a regular part of a well-set table. The muffineer would be filled with super fine "caster sugar," for sprinkling over any food in need of sweetening.

Size: 4 1/2" tall to the top of the lid, 2 1/4" in diameter at the base and weighs almost 7 ounces.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a beautiful and very rare antique, which is difficult to come by.

Condition: The shaker is in very good condition, with no breaks, cracks, or repairs.  The glass has several small air bubbles throughout and its surface has several small and difficult to see scratches. However, all of these are difficult to see and do not compromise the quality or beauty of the piece. The lid is also in very good condition having nothing more than one or two minor dings and scratches, and some losses of the plating all of which can be seen in the photos. The edge of the rim has roughness consistent with the glass blowing process where the piece is usually broken off the blowing rod after formation, so this is original to the piece.
