Antique Figural Pottery Humidor or Tobacco Jar - A Man with Feathered Hat and Cigar

  • $ 199.99

Description:  This is a very nice size antique figural humidor in the form a man wearing a hat with a blue feather and having a cigar stub in his mouth. The man is wearing a gray blue jacket with a white shirt under it and a red tie. He has a moustache and blow hair tufts coming out from under the hat. The hat itself is a small brimmed hat reminiscent of Tyrolean hats (Austria). Again the hat has a blue colored feather and a blue colored rope around the base of the high part with two balls which can be seen below the feather. He has blue eyes and red colored lips. The man has a nice colored face in beautiful flesh tone. This pottery jar is glazed in very vivid colors and shows great detail. The man has red cheeks and red lips. The entire piece is made of pottery and the top of the hat is the lid. This is a rather nice antique Art Pottery Figural Humidor. Please review photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Mid to late 1800's

Origin: Purchased in an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania as part of a large collection of figural Humidors or Tobacco Jars.

Size: ~5 1/2" by 4 1/2" at the base and ~7 1/4" at its highest.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Impressed on the bottom of the base the numbers "24" and what looks like "7634" but the number is too faint to make out with absolute certainty.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice old figural tobacco jar.

Condition: Humidor is in great condition given its age and utilitarian function. It has no repairs or crazing. It does have several small chips at the edge of the rim of the bottom piece. It also has a long (about 1 1/4") along the front the edge of the bottom piece. In addition, the base has some soiling at its edge and one chip at the back right corner. It also has a small chip at the man's jacket collar, another small one on his ear, and one on the bottom edge of the lid all of which can be seen in the photos.  However, the piece is solid and in great shape after being around for over 100 years.  The piece is great looking and very rare. Please see photos to appreciate the beauty and condition of this great humidor.
