Beautiful Small Art Pottery Glazed Turquoise Colored Vase By Van Briggle Pottery
Description: A rather small and dainty short hand thrown art pottery vase made by the Van Briggle pottery of Colorado Springs. The vase has a circular flat base rising with rounded sides forming a wide bottom ending in a shoulder supporting a flared tall cylindrical neck ending in a plain rim. The vase is glazed and has a nice turquoise coloring. The color starts with a lighter shade near the base and darkens as it rises to the top of the vase. This coloring scheme appears to be present on the inside of the vase too. A beautiful piece of art pottery worth y of a spot in your collection or to decorate your home. Date: Uncertain but probably mid 1900s.
Origin: Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Size: The pieces measures ~2 1/4" in diameter at the base, ~2 1/8" in diameter at the top, ~3 1/4" at its widest and is ~3 3/8" tall. The vase weighs about 9 ounces.
Maker: Van Briggle Pottery Company.
Marks: Incised on the bottom "21; Van Briggle; Colo. Spgs.; original" under the typical Van Briggle mark of conjoined A's within a rectangle. There is also the letter "O" to the left of the rectangle (see last photo for ).
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a truly nice piece of art pottery which would make a great addition to your collection or can be used to decorated your home. The colors are fresh and vivid and would display very well.
Condition: The piece is in excellent condition. It is intact with no hairlines, cracks, chips, or repairs. Careful examination of the piece did not reveal the presence of crazing to the glaze. The piece is clean on the outside but a lightly soiled on the inside and would benefit from a good cleaning. The vase looks like it was never used as vase, but rather was displayed and cherished.
