Antique Figural Pottery Humidor or Tobacco Jar Man with Mustache and Beard In A Head Dress

Description:  This is a very nice size antique figural humidor in the form a man with a mustache, a beard and a head dress. It could be a desert nomad or a nomad from the deserts of the Middle East. The man has a nice colored face is brown and red tones and his beard has white highlights giving it a grayish hair look. This porcelain or pottery jar is glazed in very vivid colors and shows great detail. The man is smiling; his mouth is open showing his teeth and red lips.  His cloth head dress is white in color and is set on his head in a flat profile with a bluish rope holding it in place, and is draped on the side and back of his head. The entire piece is made of pottery and the top of the head dress is the lid. This is a rather nice antique Art Pottery Figural Humidor. Date: Mid to late-1800's.

Origin: Purchased in an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania as part of a large collection of figural Humidors or Tobacco Jars.

Size: ~4" by 4 1/2" at the base and ~5 3/8" at its highest.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Impressed on the bottom of the base the numbers "8110," the letter "M" and aright angle triangle.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice old figural tobacco jar.

Condition: Humidor is in great condition given its age and utilitarian function. It has no repairs or crazing. It does have several small chips at the edge of the lid and a few spots of minor loss of color on the face of the figure. In addition, the base has some soiling, which can be seen in the photos. Finally the piece has a tight hairline on the back of the piece. However, the piece is solid and in great shape after being around for over 100 years.  The piece is great looking and very rare.
