Rare Antique Dark Blue Wedgwood Jasperware Teapot

Description: A beautiful dark blue colored jasperware Wedgwood teapot with a spout and applied handle. The teapot, which displays Wedgwood markings from the period 1891-1908, is ~4 3/4" high to the top of the finial in the center of the lid. The teapot has a round footed base which rises with rounded sides to a flat top having a ledge on which the lid rests. The round lid is decorated with a white raised foliate design around the edge and has a central finial with a central hole to relief the steam. The piece has a spout and an applied shaped handle. The circumference of the teapot is decorated with the usual Greek allegorical figures consisting of women standing one holding a cornucopia another holding a staff, a third holding a child in her hand and a fourth resting her head on her hand. There are putti, sheep, a peacock and plants all in white relief over the dark blue colored background. This is a very nice piece that is over 100 years old and is in very good condition. The bottom of the creamer is marked "Wedgwood" and "England" in two separate stamps with the number 2, the letter X and what looks like the letter F all stamped into the base. A very nice piece of dark blue Wedgwood to add to your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Uncertain, but the marking suggest sometime between 1891-1908.

Origin: Staffordshire, England.

Size and Weight: The piece measures ~3 1/4" diameter at the base, ~4 3/4" high to the top of the finial in the center of the lid, ~5 3/4" diameter at its widest, and is ~9" at its widest including the spout and handle and is ~4 9/16" high. The piece weighs about 1 pound and 12 ounces.

Maker: Wedgwood Pottery.

Marks: Impressed on the base the word "Wedgwood" and "England" Separately and also impressed with the number "2" and the letter "X" as well as what we believe is the letter "F."

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Beautiful rare art pottery teapot of beautiful design and good color. It would make a great addition to your collection of Wedgwood Jasperware pottery.

Condition: The piece is in very good condition with no breaks, crack, hairlines or repairs. The piece is clean with the design being well preserved, crisp and beautiful. The piece has a minor blemishes here and there, which can be seen in the photos. It is clean inside and out and does not appear to have seen much use. The only issue we see is the fact that the piece has some small chips on the inside edge of the spout, which we show in the last photo. However, these are all minor and the piece is very nice and would display very well in your collection. A beautiful piece to add to your collection.
