1818 Coronet Head Liberty Head Facing Left Large Cent Nicely Toned Very Fine

  • $ 147.77

Description: A nice very rare and very fine copper 1818 Coronet Head or Liberty Head facing left large cent or penny. The coin itself is better than the scan shows and has very fine details. The date is very readable as is the word "LIBERTY". Liberty's ear and the hair around the ear is all there. As you can see from the photo, some details of the hair and ear are visible and the details on the reverse are also very bold and all there. The coin has wear commensurate with its age and circulated status. The coin is nicely toned and has good eye appeal. These coins were designed by John Reich. Early US coins such as this are gradually getting difficult to find. Please view scan as it is part and parcel of our description.

Date: 1818.

Mint: Philadelphia.

Size and Weight: 10.6 grams of a copper and is ~28 mm in diameter. The coin has the plain edge design.

References: KM #45 and is listed on Page 117 in "2019 US Coin R. S. Yeoman (The Official Red Book), 72nd edition, Jeff Garrett, senior editor, Published by Whitman Publishing, LLC, Atlanta, GA.

Condition: I would grade this coin as a good fine or better. The coin has wear commensurate with its age, some scratches and bag marks and a few shallow nicks. However, all of this does not distract from its beauty and quality, and the coin does have good eye appeal. A definite quality and rare coin. Please see photo to appreciate condition and beauty of the coin.
