Nice 1803 Draped Bust Large Cent Small Date Large Fraction Variety NGC Graded VG 10 BN

  • $ 327.00

Description: A nice rare NGC graded copper 1803 Draped Bust Liberty Head large cent. This is the small date large fraction variety coin and is graded by PCGS as VG 10 BN. The coin itself is better than the scan shows and has much of its details evident. The date is readable and Liberty's head can be seen without most of the details of her hair but the word LIBERTY above her is still all there on the obverse. The word one cent in the center of the reverse is obvious as is the wreath and the words United States of America. The 1/100 fraction is very evident and can be recognized as the large fraction. The coin has wear commensurate with its age and circulated state. These coins were designed by Robert Scot. Early US coins such as this are gradually getting difficult to find, especially this date for which the mintage was 3,131,691. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 1803.

Mint: Philadelphia.

Size and Weight: Originally 10.89 grams of a copper and is ~29 mm in diameter. The coin has the plain edge design References: Listed in "2015 US Coin R. S. Yeoman (The Official Red Book), 68th edition, Kenneth Bressett, editor, Published by Whitman Publishing, LLC, Atlanta, GA." and in "2011 US Coin Digest, David Harper Editor and Henry Miller Market Analyst, 9th Edition, Krause Publication, Iola, WI."

Condition: The coin is graded and comes in a slab by NGC. It is graded as VG 10 BN, or very good 10 brown. It is our opinion that the coin is more like a Fine as opposed to a Very Good, but you be the judge. The date is readable and Liberty's head can be seen without most of the details of her hair but the word LIBERTY above it is still all there on the obverse. The word one cent in the center of the reverse is obvious and sharp. The wreath and the words United States of America are very distinct with wear to the high points. In addition, the 1/100 fraction is very evident and can be recognized as the large fraction. The coin has wear commensurate with its age, some scratches and bag marks. A definite rare find, despite the low grade, deserving a spot in your collection. Please see photos to appreciate condition and beauty of the coin.
