Antique Mary Gregory Blown Glass Cup Teal Blue with White Sail Boats and Applied Handle Atlantic City NJ Souvenir

Description: A beautiful Mary Gregory painted glass cup with applied handle. The cup, which is made of blown glass in teal blue color has a painting depicting a large sail boat with a second small boat in the background over water. There birds in the sky above the boats and the words "Atlantic City also lightly painted on the exterior of the cup. The applied handle has gilt highlights. The bottom of the cup shows a light pontil resulting from the blowing wand. A great looking glass cup from mid to late 19th century to add to your collection. Date: Uncertain but generally sometime between 1860 and 1890.

Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Size: Measures ~1 7/8" in diameter at the base and ~2 3/8" in diameter at the top. The cup is ~3" high and is ~ 3 1/4" at its widest including the handle. The piece weighs slightly over 3 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Unmarked.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A nice piece of antique glass with beautiful shape, coloring and design, which would make a great addition to your collection.

Condition: The cup is in excellent condition despite of being over 150 years old. It was obviously well cherished and taken care of all these years. It has no breaks, no chops, no cracks and no repairs. The painting is still well preserved with minimum losses to the coloring if any. The word Atlantic City appears to be a bit faded with some minor losses especially in the letter A, but this could be the way the cup was made with the Word Atlantic City being understated on purpose in order to not infringe on the art work. Be that as it may the piece is solid, beautiful and in great shape. A worthy addition to your collection.
