Scarce Vintage Milk Glass Dutch Boy and Girl Salt and Pepper Shakers Aluminum Caps and Carrier

  • $ 69.99

Description: A beautiful and scarce milk glass pair of salt and pepper shakers having aluminum screw on caps and an aluminum carrier. The caps have a slightly domed center with a flat periphery. The tall square based glass shakers are decorated with a transfers on the front. The salt shaker has a black colored transfer of a Dutch girl holding flowers and having a windmill in the background with the word "SALT" below. The pepper shaker has a red colored transfer of a Dutch boy holding a basket with a duck following him and a windmill in the background and the word "PEPPER" below. Both pieces fit nicely on a simple rectangular aluminum tray with a handle in the middle for carrying and a raised low lip to prevent them from sliding off. A nice set from the 1940's-1950's that is difficult to come by in such a good condition. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Uncertain but most likely sometime in the 1940s-1950s.

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: Both pieces measure ~2 3/8" by ~2 3/8" at the base and are ~4 5/8" tall to the top of the caps. The carrier is ~4 7/8" by ~2 1/2" and the handle is ~5 1/2" high. The entire set weighs a bit over 1.5 pounds.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Unmarked.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice and rather scarce set of salt and pepper shakers worthy of a spot in your collection.

Condition: The shakers are in every good condition with no cracks, repairs, chips or hairlines that we could find. The metal caps are also intact but have considerable bumps and dents. However, they have no breaks or cracks and they still fit nicely on top and screw on properly. The carrier is also in very good condition. The main issue is the losses in the transfers on the front of the shakers especially in the words SALT and PEPPER. The set is lightly soiled and would benefit from a good cleaning, but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. A great addition to your collection. Please see photos to appreciate its beauty of the set and for additional condition information.
