1503 Papal State Pope Pius III Bronze Medal Papal Arms

Description: A nice large papal states bronze medal with the image of the bust of Pope Pius III who was pope for 26 days in 1503. The medal is to commemorate the pontiff's election to the papacy. Its obverse shows the bust of the pope facing right with the inscription "PUIS.III.PONT.MAX." with the date 1503 in Roman numerals (MDIII) below the bust. The reverse shows the crowned papal arms surrounded by the legend ".GLORIA.SENENSI.D.C. PICCOLOINI." This is a restitution medal. The medal is dark in toning and has very nice eye appeal. The edge of the medal is plain and unmarked. This is a nice looking medal, which would make a worthy addition to any collection. Condition: The medal is in extremely fine condition. The medal shows some light wear to the high point, some scratching and a few dings to the surface. The edge of the medal is plain and is unmarked. It has some minor scratches to the surface and some minor dings to the edge. These are minor and do not distract from the medal's beauty. A nice historic Catholic piece to add to your collection.
