Description: A beautiful bronze medal issued by the Vatican. The medal is to commemorate the new palace for the Curia erected by Pope Innocent XII. Innocent XII was pope in the period 1691-1700. This papal state bronze medal has the image of the bust of Pope Innocent XII facing right on the obverse. The reverse shows the images of a large building with clouds above it and people in front as well as a scale under it that shows the numbers 50,100, 200, and 900. The obverse shows the bust of the pope facing right with the inscription "INNOC.XII.PONT.MAX.A.IV." along the edge surrounding the pontiff's bust and the name "HAMERANVS.F." (for Giovanni Martino Hamerani medalist) in raised lettering under the bust. The reverse has a legend "IVSTITIAE.PIETATI" above the image in the center. There is also GIC.ICG,VG (with the letter C being backwards) in exergue. This medal has a beaded border and a plain edge. A beautiful original papal medal in great condition.
