1910 Art Nouveau Prud'homme Plaque Louis Pasteur Award National Social Hygiene

  • $ 87.77

Description: A nice bronze plaquette from 1910. This plaquette was used by the National Social Hygiene as an award. This particular plaquette was awarded to Dr. Raynaud in 1930. The medal was designed by George Henri Prud'homme in 1910 and was struck by the Monnaie de Paris (Paris Mint). The medal depicts the image of a bearded man facing left on the front with a branch having berries under him and the name LOUIS PASTEUR under it all. The dates 1822 and 1895 are flanking the top of the head. The reverse the interior of a room with a woman (personification of science) seated at a table. The table has tubes, bottles, an alcohol burner, and a microscope on top and books and papers piled on and under a stool under the table. The upper right corner of the reverse has the legend "Dr. RAYNAUD/1930" while the words "OFFICE NATIONAL D'HYGIENE SOCIAL" in exergue. The medal is signed "G. PRUD'HOMME 1910" along the edge of the front behind Pasteur's head. The bronze plaquette measures ~2 7/8" by ~2" (~82 mm by ~52 mm) and weighs ~139.5 grams and has a beautiful light brown patina. The medal has a plain edge with a cornucopia mark followed by the word BRONZE. A great looking and very interesting medal commemorating a great scientist used as a ward medal.
