No Date (1522) Heavy Bronze Medal Papal/Roman States Commemorating Ordination of Pope Hadrian VI

  • $ 347.77

Description: A nice size heavy undated bronze medal issued the Papal/Roman State to commemorate the ordination of Pope Hardian VI. Pope Hadrian VI was and is the only Dutchman or Netherland born man to become Pope. Hadrian was ordained as pope in January 1522 and remained pope until his death in September 1523, a short lived papacy. The medal shows the robed bust of Hadrian VI facing left in high relief on the obverse with the legend "ADRIANVS.VI.PONT.MAXIM." surrounding it. The reverse shows the ordination of the pope with bishops watching and the legend "QVEM. CREANT.ADORANT." surrounding the design and the word "ROMAE" below it. The medal is rather thick with all the designs being in high relief and having a lightly domed reverse. It is nicely toned and has great eye appeal. It does show a die crack on the obverse. The edge of the medal is thin in relation to the full thickness of the medal, is plain and unmarked. It is a truly nice looking heavy medal, which would make a worthy addition to any collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
