Forged Iron Pie Crimper Bird Décor Brass Wheel H. W. Dietrich Lenhartsville PA
Description: A very unusual and rather interesting folk art forged iron and brass kitchen tool, made by Henry Woodrow Dietrich of Lenhartsville in berks County Pennsylvania. This is a primitive folk art pie crimper and pastry cutter. The tool is made of wrought iron with a curved end with a perched cut bird which we believe represents a rooster and the opposite end having a fork. The crimper has a brass wheel having a jagged edge near the end where the bird is. The piece, which is hand made by Mr. Dietrich who lived in the period 1918-2005, has developed a nice and warm gray patina throughout. it is stamped H.W. DIETRICH on the bird. Date: Unknown but most likely sometime in mid to late 1900s.
Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The piece was made in Lenhartsville, PA.
Size: The tool is ~7 5/8" long from end to end, the crimping wheel is ~1" in diameter, and the bird/rooster is ~1 3/4" long. The piece weighs slightly over two ounces.

Marks: Stamped "H. W. DIETRICH" on the bird's body. See last two photos for details.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice very unusual folk art handmade kitchen tool which in our opinion looks great and is in good condition. A nice find worthy of a spot in your collection.
Condition: The crimper is in very good condition. It has no breaks or repairs. It has developed a nice patina and has a few surface marks. The piece shows the marks of working the iron which you would expect in a piece of had made wrought iron. The wheel shows minor wear and discoloration to the surface. A nice one-of-a-kind and very unusual piece of Pennsylvania German folk art., which would make a great addition to your collection. Please carefully view photos for additional condition information.
