Hand Carved Polychrome Painted Wood Folk Art Tall Santa Figure by Doug Shaw
Description: A hand carved wood and polychrome painted American Folk Art figure. The carving shows a tall bearded man with a tall hat and a robe standing on a flat bottom. The man, which represents Santa Clause or father Christmas, was carved, and painted by Doug Shaw of Penryn, Pennsylvania. The figure is wearing an over coat colored in red with a gold and white colored edge. Santa has a flesh-colored face and a white long beard as well as white eye brows. His hands are in dark green gloves with the cuffs of the robe having gold and white cuffs. The piece is signed by the artist on the back near the base. The carving shows quite a bit of details of the face. The entire piece appears to be carved from a single piece of wood. Just a wonderful and nicely done piece of American Folk Art to add to your Americana Collection and use to decorate for Christmas. Date: Unknown, but most likely late 1900s or early 2000s.
Origin: Penryn, Pennsylvania.
Size: Measures ~6 1/4" high with the bottom measuring ~1 7/8" by ~3/4". The piece weighs about one ounce.

Marks: Marked D. Shaw in black hand writing on the back near the base.

Condition: The carving is in excellent condition, with no breaks, cracks, losses, or repairs. It does have minor scratches and minimal loss to the paint if any. The piece is also lightly soiled but nothing a good dusting would not take care of. All in all, a great piece to add to your Folk Art collection.
