1906 Silver Medal Pope Pius X ANIV Consecration of 14 French Bishops By Bianchi

  • $ 277.77

Description: A beautiful silver medal commemorating the "the Consecration of 14 French Bishops" by Bianchi. The obverse depicts the bust of the pope Pius X facing right with the legend "PIVS.X.PONT.MAX.AN.IV." along the edge. The obverse has the inscription "BIANCHI" below the pontiff's bust. The reverse depicts the image of the Pope consecrating the first bishop in the presence of the cardinals. Below the image, in exergue is the legend "GSLLIAE.LABORANTI/PASTORES.DATI/FELICITER" in three lines (Bishops are happily given to a distressed Gaul). The medal was designed by Bianchi. It weighs ~34.3 grams and measures ~43.5 mm in diameter. This is a beautiful medal with a nice portrait of the Pontiff. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 1906 Anno IV for pope Pius X (year four of his papacy).

Mint: Rome.

Size and weight: The Medal weighs ~34.3 grams and measures ~43.5 mm in diameter.

References: Mazio 866 and is listed in De Luca as No. 11.

Condition: I would grade the medal as darkly toned mint state condition with no observable wear. The details of the medal are extremely well expressed and preserved; except they are hard to see because of the darkness of the toning. The medal has a nice portrait of the Pontiff with no observable wear and great preservation of the details. It has a few bag marks and some minor surface scratches with portions of the reverse surface having nice clear silvery coloring (see the photos). A great medal that is fairly rare, which would make a nice addition to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
