1907-08 French Bronze Awarded Medal Ministry of Public Education By Oscar Roty
Description: A nice bronze medal dated 1907-08. The medal shows "Marianne" (the symbol of France) wearing a winged helmet and facing left on the obverse. The date 1907-08 in front of her and the legend "REPUBLIC FRANCAISE.MINISTERE DE INSTRUCTION PUBLIQE" (Republic of France Ministry of Public Education). There is also the legend "CAPELLE ANTOINE/INSTITUTEUR/LOT-ET GARRONE" (Antoinne Capelle Teacher at Lot-et Garonne a town near Bordeaux) in exergue. The obverse is signed O. Roty behind Marianne's bust. The reverse shows a seated woman teacher with open book in her lap talking to a boy and a girl student standing in front of her. The reverse has the legend "INSTUCTION PRIMAIRE EDUCATION NATIONALE" (Primary education, national education) along the edge and is signed O. Roty in exergue. The medal measures ~2" (~50 mm) in diameter and weighs ~63 grams and has a beautiful light brown patina. The medal has a plain edge with a cornucopia mark followed by the word BRONZE. A great looking and very interesting award medal for Primary (Elementary?) education. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
