The medal achieves cloud like effect in general by its shape which is scalloped and raised in the middle. The reverse shows a the image of a swirling gas cloud with stars and lightning suggesting the creation of the cosmos. The edge of the medal is marked "The Society of Medalists; Twelfth Issue; Medallic Art Co. N.Y.
