1936 Society Of Medalists Medal Savagery of War Hope of Peace Albert Stewart

Description: A nice large and heavy bronze medal from 1936. This is the Society of Medalists twelfth issue medal. The obverse of the medal has the image of a man leaning on a plow and gazing at a military cemetery. The obverse also has the legend "MAN SEEKS TO TURN FROM THE SAVAGERY OF WAR" and the date 1936 with (c) below it in exergue. There is also the initials A.S. bottom right of the design. The reverse shows a winged female figure in flight over mountains holding an olive branch with the word .PEACE. in exergue. The designs on both sides are in nice high relief. The edge of the medal is marked "The Society of Medalists; Fourteenth Issue; Medallic Art Co. N.Y. Bronze". A great looking and very interesting medal, by one of America's top medalists to add to your collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Weight and Size: The medal weighs ~162 grams, is ~72.5 millimeters in diameter, and ~4 millimeters thick at the edge.

Marks: Marked "The Society of Medalists; Fourteenth Issue; Medallic Art Co. N.Y. Bronze" along the edge of the medal. There is the initials A.S. bottom right of the design on the obverse.

Condition: The medal is in excellent condition and I would grade it uncirculated or mint state. The medal has no observable wear with minimum surface marks or scratches.
