Antique Porcelain Desktop Inkwell Gaudy Dutch Welsh Style Present from Falmouth

  • $ 67.77

Description: An unusual desktop porcelain inkwell. This inkwell is decorated with a colorful Gaudy style floral design. It has an 8-sided base/dish with a cubic shaped chamber having a hinged lid. The chamber as well as the lid have metal ring with the hinge attached to them. The piece has a colorful Gaudy floral design consisting of an orange-colored flower with orange and green leaves and cobalt blue colored areas and gold-colored borders around the cobalt blue shapes and the edges of the base, the lid, and the cube which would have contained an inner cup or insert which would have the ink. The inner cup is missing. The piece is marked with gold-colored letters "A Present from Falmouth" in cursive calligraphy. Obviously, a souvenir from a town in either Massachusetts USA or in England, we truly are uncertain. The piece is unmarked as to the maker but has the initials “Lm” in orange color on the bottom, which we assume they are the initials of the artist. The piece is in very good condition but is missing the insert, where the ink would be held. Other than that, the piece is in very good condition, with no breaks, losses, or repairs. A fine colorful porcelain inkwell in very good condition to add to your collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
