Antique Primitive Chalk Dog Figurine Staffordshire Spaniel on Book Sitting on Hind With Head Turned
Description: An antique nice size chalk figurine of a seated Staffordshire dog. The figurine shows a spaniel dog sitting on his hind legs on top of a book. The dog is in the typical Staffordshire spaniel pose with a lock on his collar. The dog, which is made of solid chalk is highlighted with yellow, black, and orange coloring as well as some glitter on his ears. The figurine is a nice size figurine showing beautiful details of the dog such as eyes, mouth, nose, and toes on the dog's paws. The dog is wearing a collar with the usual lock but does not show a chain as the English porcelain figures would. This piece was obviously an early American reproduction of the English version for the US market, especially in Southeastern Pennsylvania, where it was purchased. This piece was most likely a primitive decorative piece. Please carefully review photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Condition: The figurine is in very good condition given its age. It has no breaks, hairlines, or repairs. There are small chips at the corners of the bottom edge of the base book. It also has scratches all over the body, some of which are deeper than others, and wear commensurate with its age. It also has small chips at the toes and the paw. The piece has lost some of its original coloring, however, it still retains most of it. Please view photos to appreciate the beauty and condition of this great piece.
