Great 1965 Silver Annual Medal Pope Paul VI Pilgrimage to the Holy Land AN III
Description: A beautiful official annual medal. This silver medal is the medal issued for year 3 (Anno III) of pope Paul VI reign and issued by Vatican. This is the 1965-1966 medal commemorating Pope Paul VI pilgrimage to the Holy Land. The medal depicts the image of pope Paul VI facing left on the obverse with the legend "PAVLVS.VI.PONT.MAX.MCMLXIV.AN.III" surrounding the pope’s bust along the edge. There is also the name "GIAMPAOLI" in small lettering below the pope's bust. The reverse depicts the image of the Holy Door in Jerusalem with a Cathedral (Orvieto) and a Monastery (Montecassino) in the background under a stary sky with the legend "MANVS TVA DEDVCET ME" from Psalm 138,10 with the text Z986 in the bottom. This is a great looking medal with mirror like field and matte designs. A large beautiful silver medal weighing ~38 gm and measures ~44 mm in diameter. This is a beautiful medal designed by Giampaoli having well done details and beautiful shiny brilliant field. Condition: I would grade the medal as uncirculated with no observable wear. The details of the medal are extremely well expressed and preserved. The medal has a beautiful shiny mirror like fields throughout. It has a very nice images with no observable wear and great preservation of the details. The fields have some hairlines, which are difficult to see with the naked eye, but can be seen with a loop and are evident in the photos. Be that as it may, the coin has great eye appeal.
