Description: Offered here is a small black on black fine pot by Antonia Andrew. This black on black Mata Ortiz piece of pottery has a flattened round bottom with curved sides rising to a short neck with flared rounded sides rising to the plain rim. It displays a matte background having a highly polished black geometric design. The fine Geometric design consists of lines, both curved and straight, as well as circles and other shapes, which include rectangles and curved shapes. The piece has delicate walls and fine structure, as opposed to the usual thick walls of coiled native American pottery. It is signed by the artist Antonia Andrew on the bottom. Antonia Andrew, is the wife of the well-known pottery artist, Octavio Andrew. This relatively small pot shows scratches, some scuff marks, minor dimples to the surface. However, the pot is intact with no cracks, breaks, chips, hairlines, or repairs. A great pot worthy of a spot in your Native Indian pottery collection or to decorate your home. Date: Uncertain but probably mid to late 1900s.  

Origin: Purchased at an auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.  

Size: The pieces measures ~3 1/2" in diameter at its widest, ~3 3/8" in diameter at the top opening, and is ~3" tall. The pot weighs slightly over 4 ounces.   

Maker: Antonia Andrew.  

Marks: Marked Antonia Andrew on the bottom.  

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A nice piece of black Indian pottery which would make a great addition to your collection or can be used to decorated your home.  

Condition: The piece is in good condition. It is intact with no hairlines, cracks, or repairs. The piece scratches, some scuff marks, minor dimples to the surface. However, the pot is intact with no cracks, breaks, chips, hairlines, or repairs. Note, the spot you see in the 5th and 8th photos, at 6 o'clock on the edge of the rim, is an error during the making as opposed to being a chip that occurred after the piece was made. Be that as it may, because the piece is not perfect, we are selling it AS IS at a fraction of its true value.
