1750 Papal State Benedict XIV Bronze Medal Anno IVB Holey Year Issue By Hamerani

Description: A nice papal states bronze medal with the image of the bust of Pope Benedict XIV who was pope in the period 1740-1758. This bronze medal depicts Pope Benedict to the right wearing the Papal tiara and a cope on the obverse. On the reverse side there is an image of the Piazza of St Peter's with part of its facade in perspective and the Papal palace behind. A angel with a trumpet appears in the sky and in the foreground there is a she-wolf with Romulus and Remus. The obverse of the medal has the inscription "BENED.XIV.PONTA.MAX.A.IVB" surrounding the pope's bust. The bottom of the bust has the word "HAMERANI" the name of the artist who designed the medal in raised lettering. The reverse has the legend "FLVENT.ADEVM.OMNES.GENTES". The medal is nicely toned and has nice eye appeal. The edge of the medal is plain and unmarked. This is a nice looking medal, which would make a worthy addition to any collection. Date: The original medal would have been issued in 1750. This is a Rome Mint Restrike from the 1800's.

Weight and Size: The medal weighs ~28.8 grams, is ~40 millimeters in diameter, and ~3 millimeters thick at the edge.

Maker: Struck by the Mint of Rome.

Marks: Unmarked.

Condition: The medal is in extremely fine condition. The medal shows some wear to the high point, some scratching and a few dings to the surface. These are minor and do not distract from the medal's beauty. The edge of the medal is plain and unmarked. A nice historic Catholic piece to add to your collection.
