1842-R Copper Coin Italian Papal State Baiocco Pope Gregory XVI Year XI Nice XF+
Description: A beautiful extremely fine or much better copper coin from the Italian Papal States. This is the 1842-R Anno XI Baiocco struck during the times of Pope Gregory XVI at the mint in Rome. The coin depicts the image of the papal arms on the obverse with the legend "GREGORIVS.XVI.PONT.MAX.A.XI." surrounding the arms along the edge and the letter R (mint mark for Rome) in the bottom. The reverse shows the denomination and date within a wreath. The coin retains quite a bit of its details with minimum wear and is dark brown in coloring. The coin weighs ~11.2 grams and measures ~30 mm in diameter. This is the rather scarce coin in such nice grade with low mintage of 109,400. It is beautiful and has nice eye appeal. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

I would grade this coin as extremely fine or much better (Almost uncirculated?) with dark brown coloration. It is great looking with well preserved details and nice eye appeal. Its details are well preserved with minimum observable wear commensurate with its age and circulated state. The coin weighs ~11.2 grams (note Krause suggest the coin should weigh 12.76 grams, which appear to be erroneous-Muntoni and Numista (see photo) suggest that the coin should weigh ~10.17 gm thus the coin is within acceptable variation) and measures ~30 mm in diameter. It would make a nice addition to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
