1852 Copper Coin Ten Para Cairo Egypt Ottoman Sultan Abdul Majid Sharp XF++
Description: A great looking sharp extremely fine or better copper coin from Egypt. This is a ten para from the reign of the Ottoman Sultan Abdul Majid. The coin shows the sultan's tughra, a rose to the right of the tughra, the year 15 for the 15th year of Abdul Majid's reign below it on the obverse. The reverse says "Eiz Nasruh Duribah Fi Misr Mahrousa" (Glory to His Victory Struck in Egypt or Misr the protected) all around the rim, then the number 10 in the center and Abdul Majid's accession year of 1255 AH in the bottom. It is KM-226 measuring approximately 29 mm in diameter and weighing ~13.4 grams. The coin has a plain rim and is rather scarce. Coins of such small denomination are usually hard to come by in such a nice grade. They normally were used extensively by the people and were lost or severely abused. Condition: I would grade this coin as a boldly sharp extremely fine or much better with all the details being very well preserved. The coin has a nice patina and great eye appeal. It has a few bag marks, a few scratches, minor dings to the rim but is much better than the photos suggest. It has wear commensurate with its age and circulated status.
