1876 Bronze Medal Centennial Commission Award Philadelphia in Case H. Mitchell

Description: A beautiful choice mint state bronze award medal. This is a Centennial Award medal awarded by the Centennial Commission during the International Exhibition which took place in Philadelphia in 1876. The obverse of the medal shows a woman seated and facing left crowning assorted implements of science, commerce, and learning. Her left hand is resting on the American shield. The image is surrounded by thirty-eight stars and four small vignettes representing the four quarters of the globe. The name H. Mitchell SC. on the line above exergue. The reverse has the legend INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION PHILADELPHIA MDCCCLXXVI along the edge surrounding a wreath with the words AWARDED BY UNITED STATES CENTENNIAL COMMISSION. The medal comes in its original fitted case. The case is made of leather and has a purple plush interior with the lid of the case being detached from the base but still having an intact locking mechanism. The purple plush material does shed on the medal but nothing to worry about. The medal is ~76 mm in diameter and weighs ~282 gm (10 ounces). The original case has wear to the exterior surface and along the edges. The lid of the case is detached from the base but still having an intact locking mechanism. The purple plush material lining the case does shed on the medal but nothing to worry about. A great-looking medal that would make a nice addition to your collection of US Centennial Medals.
