1876 Silver Medal So Called Dollar Commemorate American Independence Centennial

Description: A nice silver commemorative medal dated 1876. The medal or So Called Dollar commemorates the Centennial of American Independence. The obverse of the medal shows the genius (Lady Liberty) of American Independence rising from recumbent position and grasping a sword in her right hand to enforce her demands. She is also raising her left hand in appealing pride to 13 stars blazing in firmament. There is the date 1776 below her all within a circle along the edge. The legend "THESE UNITED COLONIES ARE, AND OF RIGHT OUGHT TO BE, FREE AND INDEPENDENT STATES." is displayed within the circle. The reverse of the medal has the legend "IN COMMEMORATION OF THE HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY OF AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE" within a wreath. There is also the legend ""BY AUTHORITY OF THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES" along the edge with the date 1876 below. The edge of the medal is unmarked. The medal is listed by Julian as CM-10and is listed as HK-20. A nice looking and historical medal to add to your collection of US medals. Date: The medal is dated 1876 and is known to have been issued during the period 1874-1877.

Weight and Size: The medal weighs ~24.9 grams, is ~38 millimeters in diameter, and ~3 millimeters thick at the edge.

Condition: The medal is in a good very fine or much better condition. It shows some wear especially to the face of Lady Liberty and additional high points. It has a nice age patina with the fields showing some scratches and hairlines. Be that as it may, this is a nice medal in very fine condition, which would make a great addition to your collection.
