1939 Egypt Silver Coin 5 Piastres King Farouk I Bust Wearing Fez Lustrous MS 62

  • $ 57.77

Description: A beautiful lustrous uncirculated 1939 (1358 AH) five Egyptian Piaster silver coin with great eye appeal.  This is the 1939 issue of this great series which lasted for two years, namely 1937 and 1939. The coin depicts the bust of King Farouk the first in military garb, wearing a fez, and facing left on the obverse. The obverse also has the words Farouk the First King of Egypt in Arabic. The coin is labeled al-Mamlakah al-Mesryah (Kingdom of Egypt) on the reverse with the denomination and the date with lotus flowers along the edge. It is KM-366 and should weigh ~7 grams of 0.833 silver. It measures approximately 26 mm in diameter. The coin has a grooved reeded edge, which is very uncommon and I have only seen it on this particular series of Egyptian coins. This makes these coins very difficult to counterfeit. The coin is graded Mint State MS 62 by ANACS and comes in a plastic holder so labeled. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 1939 AD - 1358 AH.

Mint: Egypt, actually these coins were normally struck in the United Kingdom.

Size and weight: This is a five piastres, should weigh ~7 grams of 0.833 silver and is ~26 mm in diameter.

References: It is KM #366.

Condition: The coin is graded by ANACS as Mint State MS 62. The coin is encapsulated in a plastic slab so labeled. The coin is lustrous and is uncirculated with all the details being very well preserved and showing no wear. The coin is very lustrous and as such was difficult to photograph. The coin is much better than the photos suggest. It does have some scratches and a few bag marks, which can be seen in the photos. A beautiful coin to add to your collection with no wear commensurate with its mint state status. Please see photo for additional condition information.
