Uncirculated 1878 Italian Papal State Gilt Bronze Commemorative Medal Death Of Pope Pius IX By Giovanni Vagnetti

Description: A beautiful gilt bronze medal commemorating the death of pope Pius IX February 7, 1878 by Giovanni. The obverse depicts the image of the pope with the legend "PIVS.IX.PONT.MAX.AN.XXXI" along the edge. The obverse has the inscription "GIOV.VAGNETTI.F.IN.FIRENZE" below the pontiff's bust. The reverse has the legend ""IN MEMORIA DELPADREE PONTEFICE TOLTO ALL'AMOREDELLA CRISTIANITA IL 7. FEBBR.1878" in the center and is surrounded with highlights of the pontiff's achievements with dates all along the edge. The medal was designed by Giovanni Vagnetti. It weighs ~72.7 grams and measures ~51 mm in diameter. This is a beautiful medal with a nice portrait of the Pontiff. Size and Weight: The medal weighs ~72.7 grams and measures ~51 mm in diameter.

Condition: The medal is in uncirculated condition with no observable wear. The details of the medal are extremely well expressed and preserved. The medal has a nice portrait of the Pontiff with no observable wear and great preservation of the details. It has a few bag marks and surface scratches with minor and difficult to observe lines in the field. It would make a nice addition to your collection.
