Vatican Bronze Medal Pope Innocent X Bust Left Anno II Justice & Mercy Embracing
Description: A beautiful and rather scarce bronze medal issued by the Vatican. This is a papal state bronze medal early restrike. The medal shows the image of the bust of Pope Innocent X facing left on the obverse. Innocent X was pope in the period 1644-1655. The reverse shows the images of two women, Justice and Mercy, embracing. The obverse shows the bust of the pope wearing a decorated collar facing left with the inscription "INNOCENTIVS.X.PONT.MAX.AN.II" along the edge surrounding the pontiff's bust. The reverse has a legend "IVSTITIA.ET.CLEMENTIA.COMPLEXAE.SVNISE" surrounding the image of Justice and Mercy embracing. Both obverse and reverse have a foliate design along the edge. A beautiful early restrike papal medal. The medal is nicely toned in a nice red-brown color with very nice eye appeal. The edge of the medal is smooth and unmarked. A nice-looking medal, which would make a worthy addition to any collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
